Right here in our own backyard is KSBR (88.5-FM) a commercial-free contemporary jazz and community information station serving Orange County from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California.

KSBR began broadcasting in 1975 when the FCC granted an educational license to the Saddleback Community College District.  It started out small with an operating power of only 10 watts.  But by 1979, KSBR was upgraded to a full “Class A” operation and its coverage area was extended to include all of Orange County and North San Diego County.  The next big change came when only five years later the station enhanced its instructional broadcasting program.  KSBR now occupies a state-of-the-art broadcast facility in the Student Services Building.

KSBR's primary format is contemporary jazz, but it also has weekend specialty shows featuring other musical styles like reggae, folk, ragtime, rock, Latin jazz, blues, and hip-hop music. KSBR also holds a “not to be missed” yearly event with more than 25 headliners playing with each other in a giant jazz jam.
