This fun family event will include professional kite flyers synchronizing kites to music, disc dog shows, various flying contests, nonprofit food booths, exhibitors and entertainment. Over the years, the MVAC has implemented many annual events including the Fourth of July Celebration and Santa’s Arrival. Up in the Air was offered for the first time in April of 2011 and was well received by the community. The event was an overwhelming success with more than 2,500 participants. Farmers Market opens January 13 with fresh produce, food and entertainment The new Mission Viejo Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 13 in the Civic Center Courtyard boasting fresh produce, homemade food products and living products produced by Gary Matsuoka. Gary was the longtime owner of Laguna Hills Nursery in Lake Forest and is well known for his rose selection, fruit trees and other unique plants. He also makes a distinctive blend of potting soil that is sure to enrich the local residential garden.
The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday and will feature live entertainment the first Friday of the month. The grand opening day will include the talents of singer/songwriter Phillip Bardowell, who was influenced early on by songwriting greats – The Beatles, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, The Eagles, Queen, Earth Wind And Fire, and Bob Marley. In his youth he formed a band with actor John Stamos and later backed the legendary surf duo Jan and Dean as their bassist and vocalist. Mike Love of the Beach Boys hired Phillip to serve as lead guitarist and vocalist in his Endless Summer Beach Band. His talent and energy are sure to entertain market-goes.

The KSBR Birthday Bash began in 1989 as a small informal end-of-the-membership-drive party in the lounge of what was then the Dana Point Resort. After the first couple of Bashes, the crowds got so big that the festivities had to move to the lawn of the resort.
In 1996, the Bash made a brief stop at Saddleback College for a (very) hot jam session on the campus softball field. In 1997, the date of the Bash moved to the Memorial Day weekend and the event began a magical 11-year run at the Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The growing popularity of the event sent the Bash looking for a new home in 2008, which fortunately was the same time that the City of Mission Viejo completed the beautiful Village Green and the expansion of the Norman P. Murray Community Center. The Bash moved to its present home in that year, and based on its overwhelming success, the City and KSBR entered into an agreement that assures the event will have plenty of room to grow for the next five years. There is nothing else like the KSBR Birthday Bash Jazz Festival. Make plans now to experience what happens when more than 30 distinguished musicians - including lots of surprise special guests - join forces to support south Orange County's community radio station.
